Does Selenium IDE is useful for testing complex functionalities?

Yes, You can do it. It's all depend on your test steps, how you created it.

Most of the things possible in selenium IDE just you have to go in depth and you will find lots of secret.

But if IDE doesn't record your objects than it'll create problem. You have to look different ways to recognize it.
