Hi friends:

I will be testing a web site made from php. I have no idea of php so I want to use webdriver/java with TestNG. Is it ok to test php based web sites with java?

Yes. You should be able to use Java with this.  The benefit of creating scripts in the same language an app is developed is so you have support from your colleages.
