How to Handle DT and DD's using Selenium RC

hi, I have written a script in selenium rc. I m facing one problem regarding Handling DD's.
my script issue is Count the number of DD's after finding the DT element in XPATH,its working fine when find two DDs after DT in XPATH,if there is Three DDs  my script fails here.so please help me how to get the Count of DD''s .I tried using selenium.getText(xpath + "/dl/dt[" + i + "]/following::dd/following::dd, still it fails
