Using Selenium to automate in BlueworksLive

Hi. I have to change the formatting on many, many fields of text on a web based program called BlueworksLive. Here's an example of what I need to change:

I would like something to do the following:

• Select all the text in the field
  
• Remove formatting (there's a button provided that's in the picture example, it looks like a sideways rectangle)
  
• Select Description, make and bold and underlined
  
• Select Extended Description and make it bold and underlined.
  

The problem I've been having is that I can't get anything to record when I click on the Bold and Underline buttons.  I can get the remove formatting button to record, but nothing else.  One thing I must mention is that this field only opens when I click on an icon to the right of the orange star.  So everything is hidden until that element is clicked.  I think this may be causing my problem with recording what I want done. 

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
